Shared Resources - Core Facilities and Services for ResearchNational Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers are characterized by scientific excellence and the capability to integrate a diversity of research approaches to focus on the problem of cancer. They play a vital role in advancing towards our goal of eliminating suffering and death due to cancer. NCI grants help to fund the research initiatives at designated cancer centers, and include assistance for shared resources. Shared resources provide researchers access to cutting edge technologies, services and scientific consultation that promote scientific interaction and productivity. Scientific infrastructure such as this is critical to the mission of Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. Shared resources provide stability, reliability, cost-effectiveness, access to specialized technology and methodology, and quality control. Scientific facilities and offices across the institution house 16 activities such as tissue analysis, gene profiling and state-of-the-art imaging techniques that are available in support of basic, clinical and population sciences research. These core facilities are collectively referred to as Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Shared Resources.
