Summary

Medical care of the hospitalized elderly patient (special interest for hip fracture patients):
Elderly are at risk for adverse outcomes during their hospital stay. Loss of functional capacity, delirium, and malnutrition, among others, are highly prevalent. Interventions, protocols, and practice models to improve outcomes have my greatest interest.

Weight loss/Sarcopenia:
These age related phenomenons are not well understood but yet strongly linked to functional loss in the elderly. Falling with potential devastating consequences such as a hip fracture is a not uncommon end point.

Nutritional assessment and nutritional support:
Malnutrition is underrecognized in the elderly. In particular micronutrient deficiency is poorly defined.

Current research endeavors:
Multidisciplinary focused around the aging theme and include input from nursing, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy, and nutrition.

Previous research theme was focused on:
Porphyrias and Photodynamic therapy
